Since 68 Camaros came with 396s in them, I wouldn't think there would be an oil pan to frame clearance issue - as long as the BBC frame-side mount stands are used. A friend says he has put BBCs in several & every time there is a clearance problem - he has modified a large area (notched) in the frame for the pan to fit. I want to install a 502 on a stock frame. Is there any problem with the newer generations of BBCs fitting on a stock frame? Are there certain oil pans that are better than others etc. ? Thanks

FWIW,

I have a 496 in my '67 Camaro now.

It fit fine.

NOS BBC frame stands and the red poli motor mounts. I just kicked it over to the pass. side at the tranny mount and used one hole to tie it down.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure what you are describing that you did with the trans mount? Also, I'm assuming your block started as a 454. I'm wondering about after-market blocks - Dart etc. Maybe there's no diff, just wondering? As far as the pan to cross member clearance. Thanks

My 496 engine started life as a 454 early '70's P/U truck engine so I have a P/U truck oil pan on it with no problems that I can tell.

I would rather have a 4 or 5 qt 396 pan on it but whatever.

I say this because if I remember right? I put 7 qt's of oil in it..
