It depends on transmission model and seat(s) that you have.

If you have a bench seat, you need to get a Hurst shifter that's specific for 55-57 Chevys with a bench seat. There are installation kits for Muncies, Borg Warners, and Saginaws that can be used with this shifter.

If you have bucket seats, you can use almost any shifter.

This is just a FYI; most Hurst shifter "towers" are virtually the same. Some have a longer or curved reverse lever. Don't buy a bolt on stick style tower assembly, and then buy the Hurst 55-57 style curved shifter stick thinking it'll fit like the welded-on stick of the 55-57 shifters. Although it looks the same, it places the shifter stick higher up, and it will make contact with the lower edge of a bench seat. Learned that the hard way after buying a new shifter stick ($108.00!), non-returnable after the package was opened. On my "spare" 327, and Borg-Warner Super T-10, the shifter was originally a MOPAR pistol grip with a push-in stick. Gave the stick to a MOPAR friend, drilled a couple of holes in the stick mount, and bolted a straight Hurst stick on. The 56 Sedan Delivery has 68 Chevelle SS bucket seats, that I was going to replace with a bench seat. Changed my mind after the bolt-on, curved stick issue.

Virtually all Competition Plus Hurst shifters use a bolt on stick.

The one big exception is the one for a 55-57 Chevy. THIS STICK DOES NOT BOLT ON. It goes down into the guts of the shifter, same as the stub with 2 bolt holes on the other shifters.

I agree with Dennis. I've used the Nova shifter also. It moves the shifter forward away from the seat and then I get the bolt in reproduction 59-62 shift handle which gives an old school factory look along with room to move the seat forward if need be. It requires using a Muncie with tail shaft that has the speedo connection on the passenger side.

Can the seat be moved to the FULL forward position with the shifter being fully functional?

Well, I would have to check that. I'm 6'3" so I don't need to move it but, my wife is 5'5" and she can move it up enough to drive it fine.

Look up Hurst #5388620 stick;p it's the so-called Tri-Five, bolt-on, bench seat stick, that does't really fit/work with the bolt-on Hurst tower assembly. That's all I was saying. Maybe someone else has experienced this? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

So called is the key word. The Hurst description does not mention 55-57 Chevy.

The stick will be too high to fit under a stock bench seat as you said.

The car is 250 miles away in my buddies garage. I will be up there at the end of the month. Sorry I can't give you an immediate answer.

I wasn't looking for an immediate answer but nowhere in the thread did I see that your car was 250 miles away. Just that you would have to check. I guess if you stated that the car wasn't handy I would not have bothered to ask again. I know how it is, my '55 is stored away too. I don't need it. Just trying to get folks factual information. With the cost of Hurst shifters I'd hate to see some get something that doesn't fit and is non returnable. Thanks.

I know that. Summit Racing is just 30 minutes down the road. You would be surprised how many people don't or even some that will not go through the trouble to return things. My point is why let someone order something that does not fit or function as it is described to.
