Hello all, I have a 55 chevy with mild 327 short water pump new aluminum downflow radiator in 6 cylinder position. I purchased a 17" steal fan and clutch kit that comes with a 2 inch or so spacer to move it closer to the radiator and into the shroud. a lot of guys say the clutch fan hanging out that far off the water pump is bad. my question is what is everyone else running for a fan then with radiator in 6 cylinder position. thanks. thanks Joe

Here's the setup I had on my 57. Built 350, downflow radiator in 6 cyl position, #772 fan with Hayden #2747 fan clutch, no spacer, no shroud and temperature wise it never even came close to running hot.

You shouldn't need a spacer with a shroud. The fan blades should be half in and half out of the shroud. With a shroud, it doesn't matter how close to the radiator the fan is. Only that it's located properly in the shroud. The shroud can be cut down if necessary.

Thanks guys the shroud that came with the kit needs the spacer to reach it. Maybe I need a different shroud.

I have the radiator on my 327 in the 6 cyl position and I use two Spal fans with a homemade shroud. The radiator is a Be Cool down flow aluminum and the car never gets ove 180 degrees even on a 100 degree day with A/C on.

'57 210, 327 cid, Holley MPFI, 700R4, A/C & more.
'51 Studebaker Starlite coupe, 350, TH400, GV OD.
'96 Replica of a 1950's Teardrop Trailer.
