There were mainly three types of retainers used on the interiors on GM cars from that era. If I remember correctly from my El Camino there were the push in type like the kind that hold on your door panels to the door and the other kind that pushes into a slot and has a tab in the middle of it that pops over to one side of the slot to lock the fastener in place. The first type just takes a basic clip tool to pry the panel and clip out of the hole. The second type needs to have the tab pushed Into the middle to line up with the slot to pass back through and allow the panel to be removed. They can be hard to remove because you have to know which way to push the tab. This is the type that is on the molding at the front of the headliner at the top of the windshield. I broke most of mine on my El Camino when I tried to take them out and I don’t usually break clips taking things apart. The third type have an arrow head shape and the two side fingers spread apart when they go through the slot. These are equally hard to release because you have to push both sides in at the same time for it to release.
