Hey everybody,
I am wondering about the feasibility of
purchasing a 454 "out of a truck"
and dropping it into the '64.
I know..,
Spings, Shocks, Tranny with more forward gears.
This is very preliminary and I didn't discuss price.
I did muse about the crank.
Can somebody talk me out of it?
PLEASE.
Thank you.

I won't be trying to talk you out of it....I have a 'truck' 454 in the machine shop right now being hot tanked, pressure tested and bored 30 over, crank turned 20 under. It will be going in my 66 2 dr coupe.
I'll be posting some info as I go but it might be a while. Slow funds equals slow progress sometimes.

Get the numbers off of that engine to make certain of what you are buying. "Out of a truck" does not mean it is a truck engine, which it a good thing.

Just so we are clear: 2 types of Mark IV Big Block Chevrolet engines --> Standard deck and Tall deck.
Standard deck- Sizes (cubic inch) -396, 402, 427, 454. These came in passenger cars and light duty pick-up trucks up to 1-ton. These are known as "passenger car" engines, even though they were available in pickup trucks. Same engines.

Tall deck- .4" (4-tenths of an inch) taller in deck height. Sizes (cubic inch) -366 and 427. These came only in medium duty 2

Yes, Bigdog, you are correct on mine for sure. I have a casting number 14015445 date code M238. Unfortunately the block was decked at some point and there is no longer any numbers on the pad to get better info on it. It did have the peanut port 14092360 date code Go88 heads on it that may, or may not, go back on.

Thank you both.
We're still in the courting stage right now.
I'm gonna take it slow.
