so I just put back in my700r4 in my 85 and swapped to new/used converter on recommendation of guy that did the patch job on thee tranny. worked fine for a few days less than 10 miles to be honest. now the car only moves for the first maybe 5 minutes. then refuses to send any power to the wheels and just revs. I can turn the car off for ten minutes and itll move for another half a mile. recon it could be the converter overheating?

How does it act in reverse when this happens.

What was the issue with the transmission that required the "patch" job?

Edit: Was/Is the TV cable properly adjusted?

When I bought the car the seller told me it needed to be rebuilt most likely due to some grinding noises, so I took his word for it and took the tranny to a guy and told him just to do what it needs. he said he didnt find anything wrong but replaced 3-4 clutches just because its older and common problem.(turned out when I reinstalled it the "grinding" was an improperly shimmed starter contacting the flexplate while running... fixed that easily hahaha

When you installed the converter onto the input/stator shafts, did you make sure the slots in the converter "snout" engaged the tabs in the pump rotor?

Not engaging the tabs will sometimes fracture the pump rotor causing a low/no fluid pressure condition - which sounds like your problem.

You can check the line pressure. Most parts places will have pressure test gauges for rent. Make sure the gauge has sufficient range. At this point, you're not so much interested in what the pressure is, just that there's pressure.
