Will a fan shroud help at all if the blades are fully within it? I know people recommend the fan blades be half in and half out, but that is not what I have.

I guess it all depends of the application

Late yr model (Dec. 51 BelAir/ 52 trim), with a basically stock 67 Camaro SS350/295hp Turbo Fire Edelbrock 1405, Saginaw 4spd/355 geared 55/6 Chevy rear.2,1st place, and 1 top five award trophies so far

I don't think so, blade needs to be right in middle of shroud.

Imagine your house it hot, it's nice and cool outside.

You open window and put a box fan inside window frame, drawing in nice cool outside air.

Think about if the box fan was outside the window sitting on a chair, it would get air in, but some of the air would hit the house.

Also if the fan was inside the house on a chair, it would pull some outside air in, but it would also be pulling in air that's already in the house.

It will 'help' (better than no shroud). But it is more efficient installed properly.

Good replies. I bought a 6 blade metal fan, but don't have the shroud installed because the blades would be fully inside of it. I guess if it would help (more than not having a shroud at all) I will install it. I just didn't know if using the shroud with the blades inside would make things worse.
