Should work with a divorced coil.

Hei distributors are made with seperate coils, hold on maybe someone has a direct answer, but' from the cars I've seen, they had seperate coils.

A small cap HEI will work. MSD or other Manufacturers will clear the stock firewall.

A MSD8570 requires a ignition box. It is not a stand-alone distributor.
I have heard of coil in cap distributors fitting in some tri5's but it won't fit in most cars.
Pertronix, MSD, and others make small cap external coil electronic distributors that don't need an ignition box.

I think for right now, due to cost and extra equipment, that I will stay with the
old school points. At least I know how
to change them, check dwell, etc.
thanks

Consider one of the many available no-points electronic conversion kits that installs in your present distributor.

the big cap [coil in cap] dist. will fit some cars. depends on the condition of the motor mounts [mostly] and to some extent how the body is positioned in relation to the frame [front to back]
several guys told me they would not fit. so I never tried. a friend gave me a small body MSD, with the 'cap-a-dapt' which uses the big Ford cap. it went right in [with just a bit of clearance]. then I tried an HEI, and it went right in, with even more clearance. so...try it a see.
