Every time I run my 55 and park it again in the garage it stinks like gas or a gas oily smell. The carb. and manifold appear dry. Somewhere just recently someone said the same thing and someone posted and said the fuel was sloshing at the gas tank where fuel gauge bolts. And that’s where the smell comes from. What is the consensus on that. I’ll surely drop the tank and replace the gasket if that is the culprit.

That might be where it is leaking. I had to remove my tank and replace the gasket where the sending unit goes into the tank. Sometimes you can access the sending unit in the trunk without removing the tank. There's nothing worse than having your garage stunk up with gasoline smell...

It is far better to have it smell like kerosene and PB Blaster.

Thanks for replies guys. Is there a inspection plate in the trunk that I can remove and get to the sender.

No inspection cover. You'll need to put it on a lift or stands and creep under. Look directly behind the differential to see the sending unit. Good lighting will help. May be weeping around the gasket. Another problem for leaks is the oring that joins the filler neck to the tank on a 55. Both of these may be leaking so slightly that the gas will evaporate b4 it drips. If not readily visible, use your nose. Don't overlook the drain plug on the tank bottom. After determining one or both post back for assistance as they have their peculiarities.
