I have a 65 with factory power assist steering.
I took apart the pump and rebuilt it and reinstalled. Now I'm having trouble getting the belt pulleys to line up. The pump pulley is too close to the engine by about 1/4". I can put some spacers (washers) behind the bracket on the block but not that much because the alternator belt is right in front of the pump. a little less than 1/4".
Is there some kind of washer needed on the shaft to stop the pulley from going on too far? There is no washer now but there is a groove. Can I just put a washer in anyway to keep the pulley out further
