Hi All, I have a '55 4-dr wagon. I'm getting ready to swap out the stock rear for a '66 Nova rear. It is 2" narrower. With the stock rear and my wide tires, it bottomes out on bumps. Currently I have air shocks, but they are dying, and I want to change to something reliable, not necessasarily air shocks.
The tires are close to the quarter lip, but not real tight.
I'm wondering what you guys are using. I really don't know whats out there in shocks.
any suggestions?

I am very, very happy with my KYB GR2 shocks. They are quite firm without having a harsh ride. The car handles outstanding.

Also keep in mind that you may possibly need a shorter shock if you have a frame mounted shock brace that lowers the top mounting location from the floor pan.

KYB has an excellent website that shows you the various shock specs for extension, compression and ride height. I called their tech guys, and they walked me through my particular situation as I DID need a slightly shorter shock to set mine up right with the upper mounts.
