Question 1: Besides black or white, what color convertible tops were available from the factory? I've searched quite abit, and can find two tone non convert color combos, but coming up empty on soft top colors..........
Question 2: Were Impala wheels all black from the factory, or sometimes painted body color?
Thanks!

If the car came from the factory with full wheel covers, the rims were painted black. If it came with the hub caps the rims were painted body color.
Don't know about the full sized Chevrolet, but Corvair convertibles came with white, black, cream, and blue convertible tops in 1962. In 1963, they added beige to the list.

'62 convertible top colors were black, white, blue or cream (an off white).
The cream top was only available if the car was either Ermine White or Corona Cream. The blue top was only available if the car was ordered in Silver Blue or Nassau Blue.
Wheel color was black when ordered with a combination of full wheel covers AND whitewall tires. Otherwise the wheels were the lower body color.

My 62 Impala SS convertible in Nassau Blue has a new blue top to match my cowl tag. My cowl tag has “blue top” in the accessories line.
There were 10 factory two tone combinations of the 15 factory single colors sold by GM for 1962 Chevrolet’s models other than convertibles.

You were close Verne, cream top on 62 convertible was only available on Tuxedo black or Coronna cream.
Cheers, Carl.

Right. I forgot the black. But it was also offered with Ermine White. 3 colors available with the cream top.

In 1963 my dad ordered a 63 Impala SS in ember red. We thought that we ordered wsw, but the car came from Janesville with blackwall tires (the salesman's mistake). Our car had red wheels and SS wheel covers. Our friend Bruce Pearson's ember red SS convertible with wsw had black wheels. Lynn Mill's parents palomar red SS convertible with wsw had black wheels. I believe that Verne is correct as usual.

Hi Verne, as usual you are correct that the cream top was available on ermine white car because I have a photo of an original 936 cowl tag that has CREAM on the ACC line (VN car), but the Passenger Car Specs actually says that only tuxedo black and coronna cream could have cream top. Interestingly, the Pass car Specs also don't mention that anniversary gold could have a cream top, but I've got a 927 tag with cream top as well. Damn Chevy always changin' their own rules... At least all the blue top cowl tags I've recorded are for silver blue or nassau blue cars.
Cheers, Carl.

I couldn't agree more. As you know, there were a number of "changes" in availablity and printed materials regarding the 927 gold cars.
In a lot of cases, we all rely on Chevy's printed material, but we also know that the best research comes from the emperical evidence that's gathered by looking at original cars.

The only thing that the General was consistent on was inconsistency....
Is there any way to know on the cowl tag if the car originally came with white wall tires or black wall tires? thanks

Absolutely not. If the car still has its original spare, you might have a clue.
