Is there a small enough sandblaster to work with my compressor?
Specs: FARMHAND

26 gallon
5.7 SCFM @ 90 PSI
6.5 SCFM @ 40 PSI
125 PSI max
120V
Oil compressor
The biggest project would be sandblasting a steel wheel. No rush on doing small projects.

Harbor Freight has an open top one with low CFM usage. With recommended media in the comments section, would this one work?

My blaster is just a gun and a hose, with a double tube, that sticks down in a bucket of media. I bought it at a farm store for $18. It does everything, that does not fit in my blast cabinet, and my compressor is smaller than yours.

Another trick, I have another 12 gallon tank, off of an old compressor, that I jump in the line, between my compressor and the work.

For things like engine accessory brackets, sure that could work. A blast cabinet would be handier.

For something the size of a wheel (you'll likely want to do 4), you'll be taking a long time and the whole process will get frustrating.

For wheel sized projects, consider a small pressure blaster like this one.

Connect and pressurize it and let your compressor re-fill before starting. You'll then have to do a bit then stop and let the compressor catch up again. But, when blasting it'll do far more removal than a siphon blaster ever will. Another tank to add for more reserve would give more blasting time. You might get about 1/2 a wheel done before needing to pause.

Hint - you open the valve on the bottom the right amount you get a decent media flow that is working. Full open wastes the media.

I have a 1-stage 60 gallon compressor and I can put most of a bag of sand through the blaster before having to give the compressor a rest. That is enough to clean the old paint and corrosion off 2 crusty factory aluminum wheels.

How small or big does a secondary tank need to be? I have access to a 5-10 gallon tank. A friend has an oilless Craftsman compressor. For wheel blasting, can we connect both of them together? Since mine has a large oil based compressor, mine would be the primary one. Using more than a single compressor, where should air check valves be placed? Would a reserve tank need a check valve connection?

The bigger the tank the better.

Another small compressor can help extend the run time a bit.

I don't see any need for check valves. Might have to get creative making the connections if using quick couplers so you don't leave a hose open from a pressurized tank.
