This is probably not considered a "high performance" question but...Looking for any info on a 454 casting # 14015445 date code M238.
Best I can find is 78-90, 2 or 4 bolt. Can't figure out the date code though.
Any help is appriciated.
Thanks, Steve

Their date coding breakdown doesn't include 78-90 engines. Mine is M238, anyone?

The date would be December 23, 19x8.

In your case you'd have to look to see if the casting number was from the 70s or the 80s. Few casting numbers have an 11 year run. The small block "010" block casting was one like that, made from 1969-1980. If your block could have been built in either 1978 or 1988, you can't tell from just the date code. You would need the stamped number off the passenger front to narrow it down.

My reference book says;

1975-1987 Truck, Light Duty

Mark IV, 454 4-bolt mains.

The date code fits in as a 1978 casting.

I had that casting number, it was a 2 bolt.
So can be 2 or 4 bolt.

This block on ebay is also a 2 bolt version.
