On my 87 Monte Carlo SS the rear exhaust manifold bolt on the passenger side is broken off. The manifold is still on and it appears the bolt is broken off close to the head. Can this be reached with the engine in the car if I remove the inner fender and exhaust manifold? I'm thinking that removing the engine would be the way to do it but thought I would ask here first. Thanks

You can have pretty good access with the way you described. It will be tight next to the A/C box but you will have a little room. The success of the endeavor will depend on a few things including how much bolt is still protruding from the head. If there isn’t much there, you will have a very hard time in those tight quarters. You could pull the motor or just pull the head. You might be able to weld another bolt to the broken one. That way you can get a socket or wrench on it and the heat from the welding will help to break the bolt free. That may be able to be done in the car by a mobile welder if you don’t have a welder yourself.

Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure yet which way I’ll do it!
