PO Put on a sports steering wheel but furnished the original steering wheel. I put the original back on and used the parts shown in the attached diagram. Can't get the horn to work (electrics are fine). Any hints on whats wrong?

Parts 7 and 9 need to be correct for the wheel being used. You also need clean bare metal where the outer of part 6 contacts the wheel hub.

Did the horn work when you received the car? If not, it might have a break in the circuit. The horn wire is black where it comes out from the bottom of the column, and it goes through the firewall to the horn relay. Make sure that the horn wire is plugged in where it exits the column. The horn works on a grounding system. Usually if the horn parts are installed incorrectly, the horn blows and no on knows what the did incorrectly. It is good that you have a clear diagram for the car.

Can you use a screw driver and make it work? take the wheel all back off and touch screw driver to steering column shaft to horn contact. If it works you have a part in backwards are in the wrong spot. If not it's a electrical problem some where in the wiring.
As stated it's a ground wire that when you ground it to the column.

The horn did work. Even when I replaced the original wheel it worked intermittently. Got the parts and the diagram from Ecklers and I assume they are right. Seems like something is missing' I will continue troubleshooting'

turn over the large spring washer that has 3 holes in it. That is usually the culprit that goes in wrong. I believe that there is a good picture in the factory service manual.

This the problem I had when I restored and painted my stock 62' impala wheel. I had painted too much of the center hub so that part 6 when the horn ring is pressed - did not make a connection due to the paint. Had to sand the exes paint from the hub.
