Hi all, i have a 71 c10 with an 85 305 motor in it, been trying to get things together so i can use it on a daily basis but i'm having some issues the last time i drove it, it would start and idle fine but put it in drive and under load after maybe 10 seconds or so the engine will stutter and then die, re start it and it will do the same, this has led me to replace the fuel pump and them strip and rebuild the carb (Rochester quadrajet 4bbl) with a service kit, also new plugs and plug leads, the only thing i haven't changed has been the internal carb filter on the fuel inlet which was block with what looks like a very fine sand, i have since put in a filter before the fuel pump to try and stop this from happening, an yet it still does the same thing, starts and idles fine and under load stutters and dies, any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance guys

If the carb filter was blocked, there maybe crap in the tank, not sure here but there may be a "sock" filter on the tank pick up, they were notorious for clogging. I would do a fuel pump test to check for flow at the carb, if low suspect tank or fuel lines.

thankyou for your reply, i will drain the fuel tank and have a look for the sock filter and see if it is that which is causing me the problems, will update when i have done so.

You may want to check all the rubber hoses and connections to the tank for cracks. that would allow it to suck air instead of fuel.
