I recently bought a 261 engine, which sat in a barn since 1986. It has a stock manifold and a Rochester B on it. I intend to sell the Rochester carb on that auction site, but is there any way to tell if it came on a 261?

The base casting number is 7003536-C-33.
I don't want to open it up, but if necessary I can do so.

You sure it isn't 7003538? I see that a 55-58 261 would be cast 7002128 or 547005140 for 54-55 261, depending on application.

No, it's clearly 7003536. I just took it out into the sunlight to see. Thanks Ram. I figured a 261 carb would be too good to be true.

The engine is a 1959 261.

I don't see that casting number mentioned in the GROUP section 3.729. I am using a 1933-1961 Chevrolet Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalog. Maybe it appears in earlier parts catalogs.

Credit where credit is due...that was drtyler. I thought you meant the number was cast into the Throttle body....that's what I thought you meant by "base". It's actually on the bottom side of the "float bowl".
