After failing an inspection for non working lights, the brake switch was replaced. The first order didn't fit. The second order is a new design. The non connected end is for cruise control features. The old switch tested good with a voltmeter. The fuse is good too. Both bulbs tested good. Now I have to trace some wires to find the problem. The orange wire is power. The white wire goes to the lights. The added wires are from an alarm system. The orange wire has ghost voltage. Using my Power Prove IV, I hope it don't take too long to find the issue.

ghost voltage? orange should be 12v all the time. white would go to bcm or turn signal switch then out to lights.

It's strange all the other lights work. I'll have to check the hazard switch if the white wire goes into the signal switch harness. I'll install new side marker with amber LED bulbs. I'll take a few pics to post.

BADBOW has passed inspection. Using my Power Probe IV, I sent 12V through the white wire. Sure enough, both brake lights turned on bright red. The orange wire didn't have any power. Checking the fuse box again, the upper right fuse "Stop" was burned. I had pulled it to check. The break was so small to see. Using the probe, I found power on one side and not the other. A new fuse was installed and brake lights work again. Though I was past 15 days for re inspection without paying a fee again, the station didn't charge me again. I gave them a nice tip for .
Next up, installing new amber lenses with matching LED lights and new sockets.

Yup, the break was not in the center as you would expect it. It was on the outlet side to the orange wire. I like Power Probe IV too much. I need to carry a test light for quick checks. I had several fuses in glove box to use. While the truck was down, I installed a new gas tank switch too. It was hard reaching under the air duct to push the backside into the slot. Now, I can finally read which tank is being used. The left side reading is toast. Way past full. The other side at least works down to almost 1/4 tank. Both will be replaced. Hopefully before it reaches 200,000 miles! Less than 800 to go!
