Block 3970010 V0510TBK Fremont built truck.

From what I have been able to determine it is a 1976: L or LS9 used in a C10 or 1500

or a 1979 : L or LS9 used in a C30 or C3500.

I will have to check the casting manufacturing date tomorrow.

But is there any way to determine if it is a 2 or 4 bolt or if the a 10 or a 20 is casted into the block under the timing cover.

My research (mostly google) and recollection having worked for a Chevy dlr from late 76 thru '85 comes up with this...

Your casting # is correct 69-79 302 or 350 and could be either 2 or 4 bolt

The stamping is as follows:
V = Flint Mi
0510 is month/day of engine build ( may 10)
TBK suffix is 350 cid, used as follows
'71 trucks
'79 20 and 30 series pickups & vans
'82 10 & 20 series.
My memory is that truck engines all were 4 bolt mains. Perhaps somebody else here can confirm??

I pulled a 010 block from about that era of truck and it was a 2-bolt main so I don't believe trucks were all 4-bolt.

My 73 GMC K2500 came with an original 4 bolt block, I disassembled and rebuilt it. My understanding was that the the series 10 were 2 bolt and the series 20 and 30 were 4 bolt. This could have varied by year.

There should be another set of number stamped near V0510TBK. That would be the VIN derivative and id the year, make, assembly plant and serial number of the vehicle the engine was installed in at the assembly plant.

3970010 came in both a 2-bolt and 4-bolt versions so you cannot use the cast number to verify. 100's of thousands if not over a million blocks with the casting number were made over 10 yrs.
