I've got a 73 RS Camaro. There's a brown, with white stripe wire that plugs into the steering column. It has burned, and when it did, the motor quit running. I was able to reconnect the ends,& restart the engine. I've purchased a new dash harness with that wire present. I believe that will fix the problem. I was wondering if anyone knows what that wire is, it would be helpful in assuring I don't have a repeat of the problem.
Thanks in advance for any information anyone can give.

Brown/White : 16 Gauge wire . Alternator Exciter/Charger Indicator . This wire provides an ignition power source to the voltage regulator.
Not sure if this is the one your talking about But that's the way it is on one of my cars.

Thank you, I've replaced the under dash wireing harness, it included the wire in question, & the problem has been resolved, thanks for the info.
