Good day everyone,

Does anyone know if it's possible to swap out a modern tailgate for a classic stock one?

The truck I'm looking at is a 57 restomod that has a mid 90's box on it. I'd like to swap out the tailgate and possibly bumper for stock looking ones......does anyone know if it will fit and lineup?

Doesn't seem to be an option to attach an image... I'd like to just swap the tailgate to a classic one. HELP?

The size of the gate and the way the gate hinges are totally different so I’d doubt it would be possible to put the old style gate on a more modern bed.

So would simply changing the box back to a stock box be easier? It is reasonable to say that the old box should unbolt and lift off and drop the new one on? IT is a stock 57 frame....

The tank is behind the seat so no incumberances there......

Thanks for the reply.

I am no expert on truck boxes, but if you have fab skills or can hire it out, the conversion should be fairly simple. Especially if you are in the process of building the truck, and not trying to do this on a completely finished truck.

If you get involved in this swap please post your progress. I bet a lot of folks here would like to do the same thing.

It depends on what modifications, if any, they did to the frame to bolt on the more modern box. If there are no mods to the frame, a stock box will bolt right back on.

Thanks for the reply. In the interest of making it look "GOOD" immediately, is there a kit for wood that I can install into the box floor?

I realize that the floor in the stock 57 box IS the floor. What I'd be looking to do is lay the oak strips and stainless right on top of the sheet metal that is already there......I'm sure I'm not the first to do this....

Suggestions?? I'd have to wait until the truck arrives at my house (next month), but want to prepare........

Thanks

I assume you are talking about talking about putting wood in the modern bed.

Yes. That will be the first project - wood in the bed of the modern box.......with the look of the truck, the modern box kinda suits it..... but eventually, I'll probably go back to stock, but that involves a costly paint process and matching paint.
