Been a few years since I've posted here...since selling my 63 1/2 ton I've been looking for a project.
Found a 1977 1/2 ton chevy manual trans...manual brakes which for me is doable but no power steering.
Since both of my shoulders have been repaired I do need the power steering.
When I converted my 63 to PS it was easy and pretty cheap to do.
Checking around for a conversion kit for the 77 sounds like I need a rack and pinion set up which is pretty pricy.
Any words of wisdom?

Welcome back.
I've never done a conversion. My first thinking is parts are plentiful for these trucks. A good donor will have almost everything needed. Holes are drilled into the frame.

Rack and pinion is for true show truck upgrades. For me, stock is good. Reliable too. Let me look around for a write up.

Mean while, go to www.lmctruck.com
Look at the parts needed and what you have now.

I added the factory p.s. to my 78,C-10.
Very easy to do.
You need the correct pump, pulleys, belt and mounting brackets with hoses. Then, you need to get a power steering gear box(with the pitman arm) to mount on the frame. Most of these parts can be had at the U-Pull-It yard.
That's all except for installing it all on the truck.
You'd have to do all this and more for a rack install, plus it will cost much more.
Mike.
