Hi all and Happy Thanksgiving.

I am at the point of buying whatever PS conversion I will end up using. Through hours and hours of reading and research, this is where I am at with no definitive choice. Let me list them with some pros/cons. If money was so much the deciding factor, which would you buy?

1. CPP 500 box and Ididit retrofit column. Pros: Likely the lest expensive when all said and done. Seems to be a lot of people using them but with mixed reviews. Fairly bolt in with minimal problems. Cons: Questionable quality and prone to leaks at the hose connectors. Can cause exhaust manifold/header clearance issues.

2. Borgeson Delphi box and Ididit retrofit column. Pros: Not much more than the CPP option. Reviews seems to indicate better quality. Fairly bolt in with minimal problems. Cons: Have been some reports of leaks or "odd" behavior. Can cause exhaust manifold/header clearance issues.

3. Unisteer Power Rack and Pinion and Ididit retrofit column. Pros: Current model seems to have addresses issues of bump steer and turning radius problems. Possibly more exhaust clearance depending on manifold/header choice. Cons: Expensive. Could have some oil pan clearance issues. Could have intermediate shaft fitment issues.

4. Unisteer Electra-Steer Column Kit (Ididit column included). Pros: Nothing under hood is really modified outside of steering box shaft shortening. Will not change exhaust clearance. No PS pump on engine needed. Cons: Most expensive of group. Could cause some under dash clearance issues depending on what you might put under the dash. Unable to find any reviews for Tri-5 installs, so somewhat unknown as to possible issues. Your stock manual box must be in good shape with no slop.

Really need some thoughts (or other options if there are any that are much different than above). For reference, I am installing a RideTech StreetGRIP suspension and will put new upper arms with extra caster to compliment the PS. I want a good cruiser that I can get "fun" with up in the local mountains/twisty roads, as I love doing that.

Thanks all!

i would say electric and rack are out. power steering box will normaly have a faster ratio lock to lock. you need to know this info as well as the turning radius. there may also be bump steer to consider. pump brackets are critical. pump runs all the time so if the brackets are junk they will break or bend. also need to be sure of which water pump and pulleys are needed.

70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails.
