i have a 110 split phase ac motor that wont run. its not the capacitor. it wont start if i spin it by hand. it locks up when power is turned on. it just buzzes and after a few seconds blows the fuse on the common. a few weeks ago it blew the fuse and i replaced it. also it looks like the common wire has been getting hot at the connections. the starter motor windings look like they have hot spots on them 180 degrees apart.

70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails.

Starter switch? Many AC motors have start windings that are disconnected by the start switch once the armature begins to spin. The switch could be fused closed.

For the record have you seen this motor running? If it is new to you it could be wired for 240V.

You can usually spin a 1/4 HP AC motor enough by hand to start it but a larger HP motor might require a bit more strength to get it going.
