I have a 2005 chevy tahoe Z71. Runs great with 230xxx miles. When I attempt to engage 4wd high, I can hear what sounds like an electric motor, wiring, but then my indicator light on my 4wd switch starts blinking and I get a service 4wd message on my cluster.
When I attempt to engage 4wd low, the vehicle actually gears down, but does not lock the front tires. Still, my 4wd indicator light blinks and I get a service 4wd message.

I get no messages or prompts untill I attempt to engage 4wd.
I am also unable to pull any codes from the computer.

Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks

It sounds like the transfer case is engaging the front driveshaft, but the front differential is not engaging so your switch in the dash and encoder motor on the transfer case are probably okay. There is an actuator in the front axle that engages the differential. Either that actuator is bad or you have a cut wire going to it. The brown wire should show 12 volts and check to make sure you have ground on the black wire. Also check your 4wd fuse.

Friends don’t let friends drive Fords.

You need to have it scanned and will need a Tech 2 or similar scanner for body modules.
