Started to hear a tapping/knocking sound from my 63 Impala 327 engine over the past month or so. Now it's really loud when the car is idling. I disconnected the belts from the water pump pulley and the noise is gone, which means a bad water pump I'd assume. Looking around I see a LOT of different pumps available from many different sources at very different prices. I want to maintain the original appearance and performance of the car. Any suggestions for brands or sources or expected costs? Is it a difficult job? Doesn't look very tough to do. Thanks. Bob

PS (Or should I just buy a rebuild kit and rebuild it?)

I ordered a replacement water pump and found that the hub was pressed on in the wrong spot. It needed to be pressed on closer to the body of the pump, but couldn't because it was already right up against the body. I decided to have the original rebuilt and am sending it to Arthur Gould Rebuilders. Thanks for the information. Bob

An update on the water pump rebuild by Arthur Gould Rebuilders. They rebuilt the pump and got it back to me very fast. It took about a week total from shipping it out to receiving it back. They did a great job, although I had hoped they'd paint it Chevy Orange, but they only do a primer coat. Not a big deal, just got some Chevy Orange spray paint and did it myself. It's back in the car and working great. Thanks for the tip. Bob

Good to hear they got you fixed up. I wish every place was as easy to work with.
