Dropping a fresh L31 into my TBI-swapped 86 K20 next week. Just a stock 2-bolt reman from Jegs. Still sticking with TBI, but can't help but wonder if I would benefit from a small cam change before I put the intake on and drop the new engine in.

In the past, I've been real happy with the CS1014r on flat tappet TBI engines; but the L31 being a roller cam affair, I'm looking for a recommendation.

If it were you, would you consider the cost and hassle on a daily driven street truck worth it, or would you stick with the stock grind for now?

(Posting here because there seems to be more TBI-specific knowledge in the GMT400 sub, as opposed to the 73-86 sub)

Just the swap in and of itself will be so awesome. Personally, I’d leave the stock grind only because I don’t I know enough about the Vortec cam options. There are a couple of guys here who have done some sweet combos that will be able to give you solid ideas.

Are some options. Is this TBI swapped '86 running the 5.0...5.7...7.4 TBI computer? Willing to tune/have ECM tuned?

The LT4 hotcam is a popular choice -
