Before I put a 1961 cast iron powerglide in my 1962 bel air I installed a new front and rear seals. The front of the trans leaks large amounts of fluid,it comes out of the weep hole in the bottom of the bell housing. The front seal I used was 6712na.I think carquest brand, the seal fits on the convertor snout very easily. Too easily I think. Any thought on why this trans. leaks.

Well, seals leak for various reasons--wrong seal, or the shaft is rusty and abrades the i.d. of the seal, or the shaft is badly worn and fluid leaks out between grooves and the sealing surface. Or there was a fault in manufacturing the seal.

Bummer about your trans leaking. I try to buy the best, biggest seals I can find. I really don't like the skinny little seals that most of the auto parts chains carry.

But let me ask you this. Are you running full-synthetic trans fluid?

You can give Dave Edwards a call he had everything I needed when I rebuilt my CI glide and he is very knowledgeable in these old slushboxes. http://www.autotran.us/

Make sure your torque converter isn't grooved where the seal rubs.

Sleeves are available for covering badly grooved shafts, but they aren't cheap.

non synthetic fluid, shaft is clean and no groove.

Well, that simplifies things I guess. So maybe the seal was bad.
