Do you have to modify the trans tunnel to fit a Richmond 5 speed in a tri-five. I understand the shifter hole is in a different location, but does the tunnel have to be widened? Thanks

You need to talk directly with 2Loose here on CT; he's had a Richmond 5 speed in one of his Tri-Fives, and he just may even convince you it's not the way to go (parts availability). Might also go over to JalopyJournal.Com/the HAMB, in the classifieds; I believe there's a Richmond 5 speed in the classifieds there. Or, it might have been the Seattle area Craig's List. I lose track of so much stuff that's available out there, but I only concern myself with stuff that interests ME.

Check Summitt's listing for 5 spds. I'm sure I saw a OD 5 Spd. there that does not require anything special as it is to replace a stock Muncie trans.

I installed a Richmond 5 speed in my 57. Very little bending sheet metal involved atop the tunnel, no hammering. Trans to tunnel had like .125" minimal clearance. Long shifter fit perfectly, but needed to enlarge the shifter hole that was for the previous T-10. I used the original bellhousing, t/o bearing and OEM clutch setup and Z-bar. At the last minute, I swapped in a Muncie M20. I never ran the 5-speed; I should've kept it.

From my research I want to use a TKO600 trans in my 55, I will work with the bench seat. Anyone running a LS engine-Tremec trans with the sbc lakewood bellhousing?

if i got this right, the richmond reverse drives off 4th gear making it a very high and uncomfortable gear ratio.
70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails. |
