Recently bought a fuel injection system from Edelbrock and was charged sales tax, it was about $137.00 dollars.

No problem with sales tax, but I'm confused.

They are a California company, I live in Arizona, if I lived in California, or bought it in person in California, I can see the sales tax.

I have bought parts from Amazon and paid no sales tax, other times I have.

Someone said because Amazon has a distribution center in Arizona that is why the sales tax.

The items that didn't have sales tax, maybe they didn't go through the distribution center?

Everything I have bought from RockAuto there has been no sales tax.

I'm thinking of calling Edelbrock and asking what state the sales tax was for.

What do others think?

I bought it from their website

Kali needs all the money it can get. So, it's in a gray area of taxes. A small business was sent a letter from Kali saying he owed $1,600,00.00 in taxes!
Small business owners selling on Amazon.
"“These guys are shipping goods off to Amazon," Paul Rafelson, a tax lawyer, told The Inquirer. "Amazon moves them all around, doesn’t tell them, doesn’t warn them, the State of California doesn’t even warn them, and then years later they’re stuck in this interstate commerce speed trap.”

Although the move by California is controversial (and to some legally questionable), the issue still remains: What can small merchants do to protect themselves in an environment where so many cash-starved localities are going after every opportunity for additional revenues?"

The problem is Amazon moving merchandise all over the country and not telling small businesses. Some states will take advantage of tax loop holes.

In my area we are taxed for the above by both the city AND the county!

Everything I've bought on that auction site we all know and love lately, has had Washington State tax added to the purchase price. Death and taxes, as they say! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Agree here with your assertion regarding buying it directly in Ca. vs. online and having it shipped. Similar rules applied here in NY for longest time...If I sold something (through our business) here at the dealership to an out of state customer they paid tax, if we shipped it out of state they did not as the transaction technically took place where the item was delivered. Obviously with all the online sales nowadays they need to collect as much as possible and are changing the laws faster than we can keep up. Had a customer from Ct. amazed that they pay tax on a new car only when it 's 1st bought there but here in NY it's taxed every time it sells..new, used, used again & again & again!

If you bought it from Amazon and if they have an office, warehouse or delivery units in your state, you'll be paying sales tax. Most states are now forcing internet sellers to pay those reciprocal sales taxes.

My mother purchased a mobile home in Oregon, lived in it at Bend for several years. She then moved it to Washington and lived in it there for several years. When she passed I learned that she had never paid the sales tax on the unit as requirement Washington, who would have thought that a purchase made in Oregon several years earlier would be subject to a sales tax in Washington after the face.

Some companies, such as Rockauto, will not ship to Colorado..or at least some areas. The state has such convoluted ta requirements, they refuse to jump thru the hoops.

Washington expects you to fill out a form and pay your local tax rate on anything bought out of state...wanna guess how well that is working.

If an out of state company has a presence in the state...you pay.

I just sold an item on ebay and they insisted on my state sales tax percent be entered and they collected the tax from the buyer. Its just a fact of life today.

My city charged a “rain tax” on our water bill and people balked at it. So they say they dropped the rain tax. Now it’s the storm water fee. A pile of crap by any other name still stinks. My water bill was about $25 every three months, now they switched to monthly billing and it is $85 a month.

I called Edelbrock and asked, they stated it was for Arizona sales tax.

Never got a receipt, just showed I payed for the Pro Flo 4 and tax.

Now I'm calling Summit Racing equipment to see if there would be a sales tax to Arizona.

Will report back.

Summit sales guy says this is the way it is now, and almost all states do it except Florida.

So if I lived in say Texas and bought the Pro Flo 4 from Summit Racing, sales tax would be charged in that situation also.

Learned something new.

Was just on Rockauto looking at a fuel sender for the 65, went to calculate shipping, now tax appears.

There is a box that said no sales tax, clicked it, and it says enter name of business, person claiming tax free.

Wasn't that way a few months ago.
