Since the caps need to be glued in from underneath so they don't eventually make their escape when using a topper on an ordinary battery rather than using a restoration battery like these two pictured, should the caps be:
Aligned like this?


Or willy nilly like this?

That's what I was leaning towards thanks.
I have to polish up a gloss on the plastic top first and then fine scotch brite the perimeter edges to make them a satin finish as shown in your pic to mimic a real vintage battery.
