My 2001 Silverado seems to attract mice/rats under the hood between the rear of the engine and the firewall. They tear up the yellow insulation. The truck is only used about once a month for about an hour at a time. I've put a Decon poison tray on the frame under the ECM and they have been eating it because I've found two dead rats in the past week. My concern is them eating the wring which can costly. I've read online that a Bounce fabric softener sheet will keep them away, but I'd rather they be gone. I'd sure appreciate some ideas. Thanks!

Bounce is a good deterrent, but it's not perfect. I live in the sticks and mice are everywhere, and rodents seem to have a fascination with that firewall insulation. They get in the tractors, mowers, house generator, everywhere. The best thing to do is just drive the vehicle once a week. You'll never get rid of them. Poison just poisons the critters and cats that feed on them. Traps would be better than poison.

Try leaving the hood open.
I leave the '64 hood and trunk open all winter.
I haven't had any problems in 10 plus years.
I see the varmint foot prints in the snow,
so I know they go somewhere?
Good Luck.
