OK here it goes. If this is not the spot to do this please let me know. I joined to document the rebuild of my 90 model k1500. As you will see there are going to be some big changes to this rig.
I had "X" dollars to put into a truck and found that I could afford a 2014 or 15 truck with 150000 miles on it and all of the problems that come with that. OR...I could put the same money into my current truck and end up with a unique truck that I know what all of the little quirks are and how to address them.
I have chosen the latter and hope to get tons of input and support throughout this build.

First a little history. I bought this truck a couple years ago and it came as you see it in the pic. 4 inch Pro Comp lift and 35-12.50-15 tires were about the only changes from stock. Someone had also switched from the automatic to a 5 speed tranny. 350 ci with .373 gears.

So far I have upgraded to Pitbull 37-12.50-15 Rocker tires, Added https://www.hannemannfiberglass.com/ fenders, hood and bed panels, Spicer gears front and rear. Went to a .456 gear ratio, New 4340 steel axles , Detroit locker in rearend. Can't remember the brand or actual name of device but Drivetrain shop recommended device to help speed up the 4wd engagement. Anyway added that to the hub engagement solenoid, added 2 inches to the lift and put on an Ali Ark Bumper.
So as of today that is as far as It has gone. What is to come? Here is the list of what should happen and the order it is planned.

undercoating
500 ci motor (1968 Caddy donor) (more info to come on motor)
4L80E SS Tranny from Monster Transmissions
NT 205 Transfer Case
driveshafts to match changes
Paint and body work
Electrical and Interior
Exterior rollcage

Well there you have it. The project has begun and I look forward to chatting about it and keeping myself accountable by posting here.
Im sure there are items missing but I will update this post via replies as I go along over the next 3-4 months.

Not sure how that 8.25" IFS will like you.....

I love the idea of the 500 Caddy.....Tq!! Are you going to mod a 454 TBI for it?

The lower portion of your front bumper kills your approach angle....I'd hack that off.

Rethink the NP205, bulletproof yes, but it's only 1.96:1 low range. Consider a doubler instead.....NWF or Off Road Design has great doubler kits (NP203 low range mated to the NP205).

Oh, and you may plan for a D60 front axle swap too

Not sure how mild or wild you wanna get with the truck, but with the option of the easy to find GM/Dodge D60. You could run a pass. drop NP205 (again crappy 1.96 low range) or find a pass. drop ('90-91 Blazer/Suburban IIRC) NP241 (2.72 low) as it will have the electric speed sensor....if that is even a concern for your' setup when you get to that point...?

What should I watch for?

No, going with a Performer intake and have not decided on a carb yet...

The lower portion of your front bumper kills your approach angle....I'd hack that off.

Shrapnel....LOL, you'll be eating steering components and once you apply the 500lb/ft Tq from the caddy motor and the strain of pushing 37's it wouldn't surprise me if the case goes. All depends on how much abuse you give I suppose.
