I'm thinking of adding two rear package tray speakers. The right side has a speaker cut out but the left side doesn't. Was wondering if anybody has actually done the metal cut out before...

I think the cut out is for the defroster, not a speaker.

Have I cut a car for speakers? Yes. Would I cut a nice original car? No.

As Jason said. Lots of alternatives nowadays.

If you're set on it though, you cut from underneath, not above. Wear good eye protection as the scroll saw will give you a steel shower. Tape the tray good to hold down the fraying of the cardboard.

No I will not be cutting it and I won't be installing just one package tray speaker, so I'll try to look for other alternatives, maybe an under seat sub-woffer...Thanks

I have a convertible so my car is no help to look at, but do hardtops have 4 3" holes in the metal under the package tray?
Perhaps a pair of 3" speakers on the left and a pair on the right sides would work given that the spacing is even.
With the defroster hole I'm skeptical, but can't say sight unseen of course.
You could buy a repro package tray to cut and save your original too.

Have you looked at the assembly manual? RPO U79 AM/FM Radio with multiplex used a 4-speaker system, 2 on the rear shelf and 2 in the kick panels.

Hi Paul

See you on the SS427 forum, and here as well...

you said you had instructions for 66 multiplex, would you happen to have the 67 dealer installed version ?
I have a photo of that someone took off the internet, not too good. the only real place I have found it is in Delco 8 track Tape and the Delco radio, which I have, but the GM install instructions are like they never existed.
The real only place you see it referenced is in the accessory guide that came with the car when new, and it's a drawing, I also have the large accessory book with part numbers, has the A/B switch to switch from FM to 8 track.
I have it in my car from the poor instructions cause nobody seemed to know where the A/B switch was located, mine actually works, but 67 technology was not the best!
Sent some of what I have, would like a nice copy, but have never seen the real deal instructions ....
Factory installed had multiplex under the dash, dealer had the multiplex like I have in my photo reference.

The dealer installed stuff is always more detailed than the assembly guide.

Thanks!!

Bill,
Sorry, I do not have any instructions other than 1965-1966 as I have those for my own car. I would check with Donny Bock.

I asked him a long time ago, that particular dealer add on must of been a nightmare, I have a lot of 67 stuff, as you have the the 66-65 stuff, probably not as much.
67 forum is usually slower than this one.
Thanks though

Bill, I don’t have one for 67 but perhaps some helpful information in the 67 radio manual?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-CHEVROLET-CA MARO-CHE...

This one does not say for full size but switch location/info may be the same: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-CHEVROLET-CO RVETTE-C...

Thanks Paul,

I have them manual's (actually a few or more ) it does show the schematics of it, but not the install instructions like you would get from GM like when you put on any NOS accessory that is in the box, not sure why GM quit making the accessory manual for 67, it was nice when I did my 59, it also showed options available you did not know were available!
If I had them all for 67, I would put something together, but it's like where do you stop?
I have written to people on eBay and offered to buy the instructions on some accessories, but that's a crap shoot, would like copies, not photos of them

I Should round up what I have, and ask if anybody has what I don't, and when done with what I have send everyone that contributed a PDF copy, that would be a great summer project if I could get cooperation hicklebill@gmail.com if anyone has random ones?

Maybe I'll copy this and put it on the 67 forum as well, as I only need / want 67 at this time. 66 was the last year for that? no? I think I have a copy of one?

But right now are winter is summer here in Phoenix area! in the 80's this week!

GoodGuys this weekend!
