I am replacing the axle seals on my 1931 Chevrolet sport coupe. Since the axle bearings are sealed from the differential lubricant oil, how does the bearing get its lubrication? There are grease cups that feed the bearing and the repair manual says to use cup grease. But also states not to over "oil". Are the bearings to be packed with bearing grease prior to installation and the grease cup filled with bearing grease? This axle design is a little different than what I am familiar with, any input will be helpful. I would rather be safe than sorry.
After some more investigation I think I will be using sealed bearings.

    In response to 1931Harlet

original bearings were not sealed on my 1929, maybe someone replaced them along the line somewhere. i know the newer repros are sealed. and in so do not required lubrication.

my originals are like 3 pieces and required grease
