I have a 1954 Chevy Panel Truck, 3800 series. It was left in a field and needs serious rework - mostly body work. I purchased this truck to rebuild as our company work truck. We have some awesome stuff planned for this truck. We are VERY excited to get this project completed.

To start off... the 235 ci engine that came with the truck just will not work for our needs. Plain and simple, it does not have the HP nor the torque we require. So we will be swapping it out with a later model V8.

I was very close to getting a 5.7 Liter Vortec, but I absolutely could not pass up a fantastic deal for a 454 long block. It is in great shape; the person just wanted to get rid of it.
I have no doubt this engine will fit in the engine bay of the panel truck. I wanted to see if anybody in this group has performed this or similar... particularly since this is a big block V8.
This truck will be a restomod, for all intents and purposes (sorry to those who like to stay original, but the original powertrain just won't work). Any links to websites to reference or if you have done this or something like this to a 54 Chevy truck, I really want to hear from you.
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide to help me achieve my goal.

    In response to 54PanelTrucker

Hi 54PanelTrucker. I recently acquired a 1951 3800 pickup that I am interested in putting a 292 6cyl in. Going to need the rear engine mount crossmember from a '54 3800 to adapt to the newer engine. If you haven't gotten that far yet, will you consider carefully removing the original crossmember that you won't be needing with your BBC engine and selling it to me? I can't give you any real help on your project, but can tell you that you have a valuable piece of iron there that I hope you don't just torch out. New crossmembers are available from several suppliers to adapt the 454 to your chassis, but no one makes the one your truck came with, which I need for my project. If you're interested, my email is Thanks, Mike
