I’ve got a Holley 1850 on my 283 engine. It hadn’t been started in years and isn’t fully back together yet so I’m using a small fuel tank to gravity feed the carb. The engine started and ran pretty good. That was day before yesterday and I left some fuel in the small tank, I didn’t work on it yesterday but today when I went to work on it I noticed the fuel tank was empty and my oil level was high and smells like fuel. I’m wondering if it’s a bad float or needle and seat. What should I check first? Any other ideas? Thanks

I would definitely check the needle and seat. But after sitting for that long, I would think a full rebuild would be in order.

I’ll be putting a kit in it but was too curious on how it would run first. I was pleased with how it ran. Thanks

Ordered rebuild kit. I checked the floats and they were out of adjustment so readjusted them and that fixed it. Thanks

Try to get good, reusable gaskets. Save scraping b.s. Also, I use a generous amount of Stabil in all my toys that sit. Had to rebuild a lot less carbs since.
