Has anyone had any success, or know of anyone who has had success with the spark plug flame thrower kits?

I speculate it probably doesn't work well unless you have some kind of propellant like propane to light up at the pipe to make the flame. I'm guessing a spark at the tailpipe isn't gonna ignite any unburned fuel at the tip.

I've seen some guy's do custom propane kits and they work well.

Just curious

In the early 50s we did this with spark plugs, model t coils and pumping the gas pedal to provide excess fuel. Nothing additional was needed.

The norm for the easy way to do it is a switch to cut the spark, which dumps raw fuel into the cylinder, then you turn on the coil again and hit the switch for a coil and spark plug in the tailpipe. When the engine running again pushes the raw fuel vapor through the exhaust and it hits the spark plug in the tailpipe, the fuel ignites and the exhaust throws the flame.
