I'm going to feed you guys a bit at a time on this (new to me) 48 Stylemaster. HA. Car starts fine, immediately runs rough (when starting to move, not while idling) and misses pretty bad for about ten minutes and while it's doing that, the needle is on the left side of middle on panel. As soon as it jumps out of this funk, it's not missing near as bad and the needle goes back to the right of the middle towards the CHG. I'm not a mechanic and leave the hard stuff to them but this seems like something I can fix, maybe??? LOL Any suggestions are obviously appreciated!!

A little more information would help, but here goes. The needle finally identified as the ammeter needle probably is on the - or negative side at idle and when the car is running rough due to lack of RP"M required to get a generator generating. Having said that then on to the rough idle, car choke released, or was it used to start the engine. What carb, automatic or manual choke. How long have you owned the car, is this new behavior? I feel that the problem is in the carb not the electrical system. Remember, generators need RPM to work, they do not generate at proper idle speeds.

sorry about lack of info. I do not use the choke yet. Just starting without it. Yes, the ammeter needle is on the - side not the + until about 10-15 minutes of cruising (or trying to cruise) around 35-45 mph. Then, all of the sudden it’s running much smoother, able to accelerate well, and the ammeter is on the positive side. The engine still misses at higher RPM’s so something isn’t “right”. I just bought this awesome car last week. Prior owner “doesn’t know” about any problems but that’s fine. It’s got many issues and this is the main one so far.

Just in case anyone is searching for same problem, received new generator from flea-bay today, popped it in and blackjack couldn't be happier! Rode for about an hour and all seems good. Now to figure out how to change a clutch and an old timer says I need a synchronizer in my transmission so 3rd will quit popping out while driving! GOOD LUCK TO ME!! HAHA
