Hey been a while since I been on here.
I'm looking for some electrical help.
2004 silverado 270,000 miles.
So my cluster went out again. I warrantied it and the new cluster installed does not work.
I took both cluster to a buddies truck and they work fine in his truck. The IGN/E fuse is good. The pink wire from this fuse to the cluster plug
does have power when the key is on.
and The IPC/DIC fuse is good. but the orange wire that comes from the IPC/DIC does not have power at the plug into the cluster. So my thought is that the wire is broken somewhere under the dash. If I can not find the short can I do this....
Can I hook a wire directly in the IPC/DIC fuse box and splice into the wire right before the Plug that goes into the cluster???
Could doing this back feed the system and mess something up?
What else does the IPC/DIC do beside supply power to the cluster????

Thanks,
LS

I also checked the SEO B1 & the SEO IGN fuses as well. They are fine.

I fixed a similar truck with the same problem that had a orange wire broken behind the fuse box under the hood. Had to take it all loose to find it.

Thanks, I was planning on removing the fuse-box assy this weekend. The wire must be broke somewhere. Hope fully it is right there.
With that being said I did run a jumper wire
last night. Everything works except the tach.
Not sure why the tach is not working. Tried both clusters.

Be prepared there are many orange wires coming out of the fuse box going to a lot of things that require a constant hot from battery voltage. I cheated by having a power probe set that has a open/short finder. It is a 300.00 tool but I do a lot of wiring troubleshooting. You may get lucky and find mice damage or consider running a constant hot from another fused source directly to the cluster itself to save the hunting.
