It's been a long time since I posted here but now I'm needing some advice, so I'm back! I've got a 55 Nomad custom that was built back in the early 90's. It's got a mid 80s 350/350 with a stock chassis and suspension. The builder cut the front springs and installed early GM small disc brakes. It sits low and through the years the front springs have fatigued and now the tires scrape pretty bad. Unfortunately I don't have the budget to jack it up and put a new front end under it so I'm looking for alternatives. The stock control arm bushings are shot so now is a good time to make some upgrades. It has 15" Halibrands with fat tires so if I do this I'd also like to do wheels/tires to 16s and 18s with a little lower profile tire. Question is what do I do to upgrade the front end without spending a bundle? Keep the stock A-arms and install a 2" dropped spring? Install tubular A-arms and adjustable coil overs? Dropped sprindle with dropped coil spring? What's the best approach for a budget upgrade?

If it were mine and I wanted to keep expenses down, I would keep the stock control arms, install new control arm bushings, and get the two inch dropped springs to replace the old springs.

first things first if bushing are shot then that will be first. you dont want to put on new tries with bad bushings. cheap way is to fix the springs is replace them with good 2 inch lowered ones. $90.00 if u find that u have an extra $400 than tubular arms are best with new bushing and ball joints. they will add 5 deg extra camber to front end.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll do the dropped coil spring and the tubular arms with new shocks. The GM disc brakes seem to work okay so I'll keep what I've got.
