My starter solenoid on my '66 Malibu is not kicking in to engage the starter gear. Replaced starter with new one, and new one is doing the same thing. With the solenoid wire disconnected, the voltage on the wire to chassis ground is 12.67 volts when ignition switch is activated. When I hook the wire up to the starter solenoid and activate ignition switch, the voltage drops down to 6.55 volts and the solenoid doesn't fully engage to activate the starter. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm thinking it could be a problem with the original ignition switch going bad. Thoughts?
