I drove a 2018 Chevy Conv. yesterday and it sounded great nice and quite exhaust. I have a 1955 Chevy convertible and what I'm asking how can my 55 sound as nice as the 2018 is it even possible. I have a chevy 350 and and 700r4 trans its to loud for me with the top down. any suggestions. Thanks Nick

We need a little more information on your car. What mufflers are you running? What diameter pipe? Do you have headers? If so, are they full length, 3/4, shorty? There are a lot of factors involved in how loud an exhaust is.

Duhh! Put some mufflers on it for starters. The 2018 has catalytic converters, quite mufflers and probably a crossover exhaust system to help cancel resonation.

Nick,

My street rod is an open car also ('32 Ford roadster) with a similar engine/trans combo. The exhaust is block hugger headers with home made 2 1/2" exhaust pipes with an "H" balance tube, Magnaflow oval mufflers and home made 2 1/2" tail pipes.

It is literally whisper quiet under normal driving around conditions although it is loud when the engine is revved up and pulling hard. Glass packs are like no mufflers at all and a balance tube ("H" pipe) supposedly adds a little torque and definitely makes an exhaust quieter.

Hello;
Had a 32 Vicky hot rod with all the above mentioned combos!!
It came to me with the Thrush turbo mufflers! (they were small in size) It sounded sweet! Had this kind of "sparkle" to the sound! Sorry I sold that car!

Bruce, I would be sorry I sold a '32 Victoria no matter how it sounded, ha.

I have been seriously considering stock quiet mufflers but with electric cut-outs just in case I need a noise fix or happen to get next to a Honda with a coffee can exhaust tip.
