I have a 1946 Chevrolet two door sedan, and the VIN is 5DKH1XXXX and I can't find any help in decoding it. The 5 means Kansas City, I believe, but beyond that I get nothing. If it were a truck, there is a lot of info available.
Thanks in advance,

Welcome to Chevy Talk. Go to In your case the 5= plant, D= model year, K=model, I= month, numbers= sequential serial numbers. I Googled “1946 Chevrolet serial number decoding” and found several sites for passenger cars. this was just one.

5 = Kansas City, MO.
D = 1946
K = Fleetmaster and Fleetline
H = August
1XXXX = Unit Serial Number, minus 1001.
