My 95 Chevy 1500 with 4.3L has a manual 5 speed transmission that only 4th gear is trying to work. No other gear tries to turn the wheels. Was wondering if someone here has had this problem or knows anything about a problem like this. Was told that 4th gear is direct drive so maybe that's the reason it wants to work while the others gears don't. I thank you for any help I can get. Love the old truck. P.S. Clutch isn't that old and seems to be working.

Welcome to ChevyTalk.
#1 check the fluid.
#2. Does it go into the gears when not running?
If it does then it sounds like a clutch issue
If it does not then it sounds more like a trans issue.
Typically if the trans is failing it will be hard to get it into certain gears and will become harder to get in over time.
Ditto on direct drive. Never heard of that.
Only thing is that the 4th and 5th gears are the least common to wearing out because the work is done mostly by the take off speeds
