Hi. Im wondering if the resto paint shops paint a car with fenders and doors on carts and the main body separate. Then assembling. My project is currently on a rotisseri with doors fenders etc loose and not sure how to proceed when paint time comes

If you want a standout paint job make sure you do all blocking before paint with the body panels hung and properly adjusted. Make sure you block over panel seams. Use as long a block as possible. Once you are happy with the blocking, remove the panels and cut-in around them, jambs, etc. I would them rehang the panels and paint the car as a unit. Maybe not so important with a solid color, but almost a must with metallics.

You have to have a great painter to paint panels off the car. The panels need to be in the correct orientation (as they would sit on the car) and even then if it is a metallic color, the metallic distribution can be way off because the painter is not painting from one panel to the next in a continuous motion the way they would with the car put together. Plus you greatly increase the chances of damaging a panel or paint if you assemble the pieces after they are painted.
