Hi all, i don't really know where to put this, but i am swapping my 1970 nova that had a 2 piece rear main 350 to a 1998 Vortec 350. The car has a wc t5 from an 88 Camaro that was working ok. When i try and mount the t5 to the new engine i make it to within 1/16th in to the bell housing. Using a socket that is approximately the size of the input shaft i gauged the depth of crank the the bell housing and found that it is likely the input shaft is hitting the back of the crank past the pilot bushing. Has anyone else hit this? Are 1 piece cranks shallower than 2 piece?

I have read that people shorten these transmissions all the time for flat head engines and such... but it does not make me feel warm and fuzzy to take a Dremmel to my input shaft.

Thanks

I measure the shaft to the face of the transmission at over 7 inches. From reading around it should be 6.5. The trans is a 26 spline gm. I am probably gonna cut it here soon.

Ended up cutting it about 3/16 inch. Used the old pilot bushing as a guide to make it square and constantly sprayed water to keep the rest of the shaft cool. Trans flopped right in and seems happy.
