I am in the process of building a 1949 chevy pickup. 49-54 is basically the same truck depending on the engine with the 216 inline 6 being a first gen. I put a mustang II suspension under my 49 to give it a more updated feel. It comes with the option for rack and pinion and power steering. It was purchased from FAT MANS custom suspensions in NC. Great team to work with. Check out the suspension section as they have many to choose from depending on which way you are going with the build. I'm leaning toward the hot rod side so I found that to be the best suspension for me. If you are using the original frame the modifications to fit a newer suspension like that will cost around $2000. I found it cheaper to have FAT MANS build me a custom frame to support all the upgrades I and making.
