My 65 has a 327 with stock points ignition. I switched it over to HEI. Anyone who has done this swap, when you ran your new 12g wire. Where did you hook it up too? Some forums I checked they say hook it to the fuse box others say hook it right to the key switch. Where is the best place to hook for a good 12volt source?
Thanks
Chris

You can do either. If you have a position in the fuse box open that has power when the key is on you can use that or you can replace the wire that runs from the ignition switch to the R terminal on the starter and run it directly to the distributor. You should use a 12 gauge wire either way.

You actually need to get power from a source that is hot with the key in the run position and also from the R terminal on the starter, when you turn the key to the start position it cuts power to everything except the starter solenoid, this is why they provide the R terminal on the starter.

If a hammer can't fix it, it really IS broken

"I switched it over to HEI"

What is your definition of HEI? monster size distributor? etc.
Pertronics?
AAW's HEI conversion? stock looking or race?

How do you drive your car I guess would be the simple question?

I installed a MSD street fire distributer with the coil built into the cap. I use it as as my daily driver back and forth from work as well as taking it to car shows. Its by no means a race car and I don't intend it to be. I hooked it up to my fuse panel with a 12gauge wire and it runs fine. Which has me confused, if it kills all power except the R terminal shouldn't it not start at all?
